September Updates - Lots of Trips!
Dear Friends and Family,
The last three weeks have been a whirlwind of an adventure with everything from midnight van breakdowns in Wyoming to seeing the beginnings of breakthroughs in a few student’s lives. Here are the latest updates!
Perspective Trip
One of the biggest highlights these past few weeks was our first big trip of the year—taking students and staff families up to the Tetons in Wyoming. The theme was Perspective—learning to see ourselves, others, and the world through God’s story of redemption instead of the enemy’s narrative of destruction.
The trip started a little wild—one of our vans broke down at midnight in the middle of Wyoming. Everyone was tired and cranky, but it was awesome to watch the students (and us leaders!) rally, choose joy, and still roll into the Tetons by 4am.
I love this trip because it’s fun and lighthearted, but also gives a glimpse into the deeper parts of everyone’s hearts. We saw masks come down and real bonding happen.
We took the students cliff diving, which pushed a lot of them past fear. Hearing the shaky “I actually did it!” followed by the team cheering was the best. We also canoed across Leigh Lake—nothing like a canoe to expose communication issues! It was hilarious watching boats spinning in circles at the start of the day turn into laughter and encouragement by the end.
All in all, it was an amazing trip—such a good launchpad for trust and community as we head into the next few months.
Fasting
We just wrapped up a 3-day prayer and fasting retreat—the first time fasting for a lot of the students. Noah and I didn’t go for the whole trip, but we drove up Tuesday night to lead worship and pray with everyone.
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much since night two of fasting usually means people are tired, cranky, and hungry. But wow—I was so wrong. We walked in and got to witness some huge, unexpected breakthroughs.
One moment that stood out was praying with a student who realized she’d been carrying a deep fear of rejection that kept her from letting people close or receiving love. She had never told anyone that before. After that, worship exploded—the room ended with everyone shouting, “I am free to love, I am free to dance, I am free to live for You, I am free!”
I have attached a video of everybody having fun worshipping during the fasting retreat!
Upcoming
Today we head out for the final stretch of the first six weeks—our Testimony Retreat. Last year this retreat was one of the most impactful for both of us, and we’re really excited to walk through it with the students again.
We’d love prayer over both staff and students this coming week. We’ll be walking through a lot of heavy but powerful stories, and while it’s so good, it can also be a pretty tough week.
Prayer Requests
Testimony Retreat - Pray for discernment and extra love as we walk with others in really vulnerable spaces. Also pray for our own hearts as we prepare.
Strength - I’ve been feeling more tired again with pregnancy and would love prayer for energy. Noah had a rough week health-wise but is recovering—pray for continued strength and health for him too.
Growing in Leadership - We are both encountering new challenges as we step into greater levels of leadership. Please pray that the Lord would continue teaching us how to be Christlike leaders.
We love you all! Thank you for your continued support and prayers!
